چکیده

Standard analysis for fixed priority scheduling assumes that all the computations for each task must be completed by the task’s deadline. In practice this is rarely the case. The deadline is more correctly associated with the last observable event of the task, interval events and kernel overheads (such as the context switch away from the task) can occur after the deadline. New analysis is presented that caters for this situation. The result is enhanced schedulability without modification to the preemptive behaviour of the run-time system.

A unified analysis of global EDF and fixed-task-priority schedulability of sporadic task systems on multiprocessors

Fixed-task-priority (FTP) scheduling and earliest-deadline-first (EDF) scheduling policies are alike in fixing the priority of each job of a task at the time the job is released. This common feature of FTP and EDF scheduling permits a unified analysis of scheduling failures, to derive new sufficient tests for meeting all deadlines of a set of independent sporadic tasks under a global preemptive...

Fixed Priority Scheduling of Periodic Task Sets with Arbitrary Deadlines

This paper considers the problem of fixed priority scheduling of periodic tasks with arbitrary deadlines. A general criterion for the schedulability of such a task set is given. Worst case bounds are given which generalize the Liu and Layland bound. The results are shown to provide a basis for developing predictable distributed real-time systems.

Transformation Methods for Off-line Schedules to Attributes for Fixed Priority Scheduling

Off-line scheduling and fixed priority scheduling (FPS) are often considered as complementing and incompatible paradigms. A number of industrial applications demand temporal properties (predictability, jitter constraints, endto-end deadlines, etc.) that are typically achieved by using off-line scheduling. The rigid off-line scheduling schemes used, however, do not provide for flexibility. FPS h...

Exact best-case response time analysis of real-time tasks under fixed-priority pre-emptive scheduling for arbitrary deadlines

In this paper, we present a conjecture for exact best-case response times of periodic released, independent real-time tasks with arbitrary deadlines that are scheduled by means of fixed-priority pre-emptive scheduling (FPPS). We illustrate the analysis by means of an example. Apart from having a value on its own whenever timing constraints include lower bounds on response times of a system to e...

nm - Hard deadlines and Dual Priority Scheduling

The problem of effectively scheduling soft tasks whilst guaranteeing the behaviour of hard tasks has been addressed in many papers and a large number of techniques have been proposed. The dual priority mechanism is an intuitively simple method with low overheads. A hard task is assigned two priorities. Upon invocation, the task starts executing with a low priority and it is promoted to a high p...
